Maya Angelou once said,
“I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.”
I embrace a rainy day, I am fine with lost luggage, but tangled Christmas lights, cause me physical, emotional, mental and spiritual chaos! I understand how low on the scale of importance Christmas lights ranks in the big scheme of things. I am thankful someone more skilled than I is usually around to tear the tangles from my clutched and contorted hands. I am still amazed how my sanity spirals into crazed confusion in the blink of an eye. Calm and control are exchanged for crying and calamity. My go to thought is ‘to bin them all and start from scratch next year’. Economically and environmentally this option is failure and my tenacious side does love a challenge.
With a bit of patience and perseverance I have found three fabulous options to maintain a peaceful union between me and the Christmas light crisis.
1. Use heavy duty hangers, one for each string of lights. Wire hangers won’t cut it, they are too flimsy. Wind the strand around the hanger, pulling tightly to avoid slack. Hanging is an option or pack lights in a box. Remember to place a piece of cardboard between each strand to ensure they no have no chance of intermingling.
2. Use a piece of flat cardboard. Following the same above in
structions, one piece of cardboard per one string of lights, pull taut and secure. Slice the cardboard to secure the two ends, voila. Ready for next year.
3. Did you save any Christmas wrapping paper tubes? Same scenario simply a different base.
There you are, three EASY and cost effective ways to triage the tangled mess. Here is to hoping next year will be simple and smooth with these great solutions.
